Το φεστιβάλ ξεκινά την Παρασκευή 6 Οκτωβρίου με τον πιανίστα Γιώργο Ψυχογιό που μαζί με τον τρομπετίστα Δημήτρη Παπαδόπουλο θα παρουσιάσει το έργο του “The Mechanism”, εμπνευσμένο από τον μηχανισμό των Αντικυθήρων και θα συνεχιστεί με το Ioannou/Vafeas Quartet, ένα από τα καλύτερα συγκροτήματα της κυπριακής σκηνής.

Το Σάββατο 7 Οκτωβρίου το πρόγραμμα θα ξεκινήσει με το CMS Quartet, ένα σχήμα με μαθητές του εργαστηρίου τζαζ αυτοσχεδιασμού της σχολής Contemporary Music School και θα δώσει τη θέση του στο Lada Obradovic Project, ένα πολυεθνικό κουιντέτο που έχει έδρα τη Βέρνη της Ελβετίας και που έρχεται στη χώρα μας ειδικά για την εμφάνισή του στο φεστιβάλ.

Η τελευταία μέρα του φεστιβάλ ξεκινά με το Night Bird Song, ένα φιλμ για τον μεγάλο σαξοφωνίστα Thomas Chapin, που προβάλλεται για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα και ολοκληρώνεται με το Suite Tres Rios, μια μοναδική συνεργασία ανάμεσα στον βραζιλιάνο πιανίστα Dan Costa, τον μπασίστα Ντίνο Μάνο και τον ντράμερ Γιάννη Ρούσσο, με τη συμμετοχή της Αγγελικής Κοκκίνη.

“The Mechanism” with Yiorgos Psihoyios / featuring Dimitris Papadopoulos

The pianist and accordionist Yiorgos Psihoyios presents his work “The Mechanism” inspired by the famous Antikythera Mechanism. It is a project that combines the tradition of improvised piano recitals, cinematic music of the 1960s, as well as avant-garde and minimalist elements. He will also play adaptations and piano improvisations. Trumpeter Dimitris Papadopoulos joins him.

Ioannou / Vafeas Quartet is one of the best jazz scene groups in Cyprus, in which two experienced and acclaimed Cypriot musicians coexist with two representatives of the younger generation. For the first time they present outside Cyprus their first album titled “Bridge of Locks” with compositions by the American saxophonist Chris Byars.

CMS Quartet

The CMS Quartet is the first genuinely Syriot band to appear at the festival. It was formed by students of the Contemporary Music School who participated in the Jazz Workshop of the school. They present a series of well-known jazz standards that they worked on during the workshop sessions under the teachings of Yannis Roussos.

Lada Obradovic Project

Lada Obradovic's Project is a rising group of the new European jazz scene and was recently selected among the 5 finalists of the important Made In New York competition. This multinational group (each member comes from a different country) appears for the first time in our country.

Film: Night Bird Song

Night Bird Song is a unique documentary that portrays the personality and work of Thomas Chapin, one of the top saxophonists and flutists of his generation, who passed away very early. Stephanie J. Castillo's film, screened among others at the Jazz at Lincoln Centre in New York and the Monterey Jazz Festival, will be shown for the first time in Greece.
Duration: 58 minutes. With Greek subtitles.
"Suite Três Rios" - Dan Costa, Ntinos Manos, Yiannis Roussos

Pianist Dan Costa of Portuguese-Italian origin and born in England, presents his recent work “Suite Três Rios” recorded in Rio de Janeiro with the participation of major Brazilian musicians such as Jaques Morelenbaum and Ricardo Silveira. He is joined by Ntinos Manos, and Yiannis Roussos.
