Το Milano Design Film Festival γεννήθηκε το 2013 για να ορίσει ένα πολυαναμενόμενο ετήσιο ραντεβού με τον κινηματογράφο και το design στο Μιλάνο. Έχοντας ήδη ταξιδέψει σε διάφορες πόλεις του κόσμου τον Μάρτιο έρχεται για πρώτη φορά στην Αθήνα από τις 19 έως τις 22 Μαρτίου 2020. Το design καταφθάνει στην Αθήνα μαζί με το σινεμά, για να προσφέρει στην πόλη κάτι πρωτοποριακό, μέσα από μία διοργάνωση πλούσια σε πρεμιέρες, αξιόλογους Έλληνες και διεθνείς καλεσμένους, συναντήσεις και συζητήσεις.
Το Milano Design Film Festival Greece & Cyprus , το οποίο ίδρυσε και διευθύνει η Άννη Μαρκιτάνη Annie Markitanis, στοχεύει στην εδραίωση ενός ετήσιου ραντεβού με τον κινηματογράφο και το design στην Αθήνα, διευρύνοντας την επιτυχημένη ιδέα και δομή του MDFF μέσα από μια σειρά μελλοντικών σταθμών στην Ελλάδα και την Κύπρο.
Πρόκειται για ένα φεστιβάλ που διερευνά την τρέχουσα πραγματικότητα και τον σύγχρονο τρόπο ζωής σε όλες τις εκφάνσεις του, και παρουσιάζει μια πληθώρα οπτικών και εγχειρημάτων, καθώς εξηγεί τι σημαίνει να προβάλλουμε τη ζωή μας, τόσο στο άμεσο όσο και στο μακρινό μέλλον. Η διοργάνωση προβάλλει τρόπους με τους οποίους κάποιος μπορεί να χτίζει, να κατοικεί και να βιώνει τις πόλεις, ενώ εμβαθύνει στη σχέση μεταξύ ανθρώπου και φύση.
Το MDFF Greece & Cyprus εξερευνά και εξηγεί τις διαφορετικές διαστάσεις και μορφές έκφρασης βασικών θεμάτων όπως η Αρχιτεκτονική, το Design, η Βιωσιμότητα, η Τεχνητή νοημοσύνη, η Αστική ζωή, η Βιογραφία πρωταγωνιστών του ιταλικού design, η Τέχνη, καθώς και η Τέχνη της σκέψης. Σκοπός μας είναι να απελευθερώσουμε τις δυνατότητες της οπτικοακουστικής αφήγησης, ενισχύοντας έτσι τον βαθμό επίδρασής της σε κοινωνικό και πολιτιστικό πλαίσιο. Στόχος μας είναι να μεταδώσουμε στο κοινό την ιδέα ότι το design δεν είναι ένα επάγγελμα αλλά μια ολόκληρη προσέγγιση: ότι όλα τα στοιχεία του κόσμου γύρω μας, οτιδήποτε χρησιμοποιούμε και αφορά τη ζωή μας συνδέεται με το design.
Ακολουθώντας την αντίληψη «Μαθαίνω παρακολουθώντας», η εκδήλωση βασίζεται στη σημασία και τη δυναμική της κινηματογραφικής γλώσσας στην ψηφιακή εποχή. Η μοναδική ικανότητα της έβδομης τέχνης να πληροφορεί, να εξερευνά, να εκπαιδεύει, να ψυχαγωγεί, να προσελκύει και να φέρνει κοντά θεατές από κάθε τομέα και κοινωνικό φάσμα (αρχιτέκτονες, επιμελητές, δημιουργούς ταινιών, σχεδιαστές, δημοσιογράφους, επιχειρηματίες, κριτικούς, γκαλερίστες, καθηγητές, φωτογράφους, καλλιτέχνες, σπουδαστές, αστικούς οραματιστές, κοινωνικούς μεταρρυθμιστές, λάτρεις του κινηματογράφου και του design, αλλά και το ευρύ κοινό), μετουσιώνει τις προβολές σε ευκαιρίες κοινωνικοποίησης και πολιτιστικής ανταλλαγής. Ένα κάλεσμα σε όλους τους επαγγελματίες του χώρου, αλλά και σε όσους άλλους θεωρούν ένα τέτοιο γεγονός ως μια μοναδική ευκαιρία για να γνωρίσουν τον κόσμο του design μέσα από τον κινηματογράφο ή, και αντίστροφα, να αξιοποιήσουν τον κινηματογράφο ως εργαλείο εξοιξείωσης με τον κόσμο της αρχιτεκτονικής και του design.
Σκοπός αυτής της πρώτης έκδοσης είναι να συστήσει στο ελληνικό κοινό έναν καινούργιο, διαφορετικό τρόπο ανάγνωσης, αντίληψης και ανάλυσης του παρόντος και όλων όσων μας περιτριγυρίζουν. Στόχος μας είναι να εξάψουμε την περιέργεια του κοινού, ώστε η ετήσια αυτή διοργάνωση να εξελιχθεί εκ των έσω.
Το MDFF Greece – Athens φιλοδοξεί να συγκροτήσει την ελληνική κοινότητα του MDFF. Η εκδήλωση προσφέρει ένα νέο πλαίσιο για τη δημιουργία μιας γέφυρας μεταξύ της Ελλάδας και της Ιταλίας, μέσα από δημιουργικές αλληλεπιδράσεις, δημιουργία νέων σημείων επαφής και προσέλκυσης ενός ευρύτερου κοινού. Και το κυριότερο: το MDFF Greece – Athens στοχεύει να δώσει ώθηση στη σύσταση εθνικών και διεθνών ομάδων που βλέπουν την Αθήνα ως έναν νέο χώρο όπου μπορούν να μοιραστούν τις ιστορίες τους.
Στο πλαίσιο του MDFF Greece – Athens 2020, η Αθήνα θα καλωσορίσει μια διοργάνωση διεθνούς κύρους, ενώ θα συνεχίζει την παράδοση της μιλανέζικης πρωτεύουσας της αρχιτεκτονικής και του design.

Περισσότερες από 20 προβολές ιταλικών, διεθνών και ελληνικών ταινιών μικρού και μεγάλου μήκους, ντοκιμαντέρ και βιογραφικών ταινιών, καθώς και διάφορες ομιλίες, εργαστήρια και συζητήσεις που αλληλοσυμπληρώνονται, παρουσιάζουν ένα καινοτόμο σύστημα πολιτιστικής επικοινωνίας και διάχυσης πληροφοριών που αναπτύσσεται χάρη στην πολυφωνία του Design.
● Όταν το design συναντά τον κινηματογράφο
Γι’ αυτήν την πρώτη έκδοση, στόχος μας είναι να αναδειχθεί η προσαρμοστικότητα του design ανάλογα με το περιβάλλον στο οποίο εισχωρεί. Το MDFF Greece – Athens επιτρέπει στο design να εισέλθει στη σφαίρα του σινεμά, προβάλλοντας την απίστευτη εφευρετική του δύναμη να υπερβαίνει τον ήδη εγνωσμένο κόσμο, ενώ παράλληλα συλλογίζεται τον ρόλο του στην επικράτεια του κοινού μας μέλλοντος. Ένας συνδυασμός ταινιών, ομιλιών, συζητήσεων και workshop φιλοδοξεί να γίνει το πρίσμα υπό το οποίο το design thinking αναλύεται σε όλες του τις διαφορετικές εκφράσεις στη θεωρία και την πρακτική. Το φεστιβάλ προσεγγίζει το design ως στάση ζωής, και όχι μόνο ως επάγγελμα, διερευνώντας το πώς ο σχεδιασμός είναι ένας παράγοντας αλλαγής που μπορεί να μας βοηθήσει να κατανοήσουμε τι συμβαίνει γύρω μας και πως μπορούμε να τον στρέψουμε προς όφελός μας. Το Milano Design Film Festival Greece-Athens μάς προσκαλεί να φανταστούμε και να σχεδιάσουμε το μέλλον μας από την αρχή, όχι μόνο ρίχνοντας φως στην ανεκμετάλλευτη δυναμική της κινούμενης εικόνας, αλλά, κυρίως, αντανακλώντας αυτό το φως στον κοινωνικό χώρο.

Milano Design Film Festival was born in 2013 to set an eagerly awaited yearly rendezvous with cinema and Design in Milan. Having already traveled to different cities around the world, this March, the festival arrives for the first time in Athens from March 19 to March 22, 2020. Design and cinema arrive in Athens, Greece, hand in hand, ready to introduce the city a novelty over a three-day event rich in premières, notable Greek and international guests, encounters, and discussions.
Milano Design Film Festival Greece & Cyprus, founded and directed by Annie Markitanis Annie Markitanis, is meant to establish an annual appointment with Cinema and Design in Athens, expanding MDFF’s successful concept and format through a series of future stopovers around Greece and Cyprus.
A festival that investigates our current reality and contemporary living in all its forms, presenting a variety of points of view and projects, and explaining what projecting our lives means – in the near and distant future. The event projects ways of building, inhabiting, and experiencing cities, as well as delves into the relationship between man and nature.
MDFF Greece -Athens explores and explains the different dimensions and expressions of such key themes as Architecture, Design, Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, Urban Life, Biography, Art, and the Art of Thinking.
The intention is to ‘free’ the potential of the audiovisual narrative, ensuring a direct impact on the social and cultural context. The goal is to address the audience with the idea that Design is not a profession, but rather an attitude; that everything around us, everything we use, and everything that concerns our lives is bound to Design.
Following the notion “Learning by Watching,” the Event relies on the prominence and potential of the cinematic language in our digital era. The unique ability of cinema as the Seventh Art to inform, investigate, educate, entertain, engage, and bring together viewers from all walks of life (architects, curators, filmmakers, designers, journalists, entrepreneurs, critics, gallerists, professors, photographers, artists, students, civic visionaries, social innovators, cinema and design devotees, and the general public), turns screenings into opportunities for socialization and cultural exchange. An event addressed to a wide range of audiences, from specialized professionals to those who consider a festival a pleasant and unique opportunity to get to know the world of design through cinema or, vice versa, to discover cinema as a tool for describing architecture and design.
The purpose of this first edition is to introduce to the Greek public a new, different way to read, perceive, and elaborate our present, and all that surrounds us. The goal is to instill the grain of curiosity in the audience, allowing this annual event to evolve organically.
MDFF Athens aspires to form a Greek MDFF community. The event provides a new context to erect a cultural bridge between Greece and Italy through a creative import and export, building new connections, and engaging the wider audience. Most importantly, MDFF Greece – Athens aims to bring forth national and international companies who see Athens as a new place, suitable to share their stories.
Within the frame of MDFF Greece – Athens 2020, the city of Athens will be welcoming an event of international prestige, carrying on the legacy of the Milanese Design and Architecture capital.

Over 20 screenings of Italian, international and Greek short or feature-length films, documentaries and biopics, along with a variety of talks, workshops, and debates that complement each other, demonstrating an innovative system of cultural communication and dissemination, with the polyphony of Design leading the way.
● When Design meets Cinema
For this fist edition, the goal is to demonstrate the versatility of design according to the environment in which it inhabits. MDFF Athens allows design to enter the cinematic realm, projecting its incredible inventive force onto a familiar place and performing its universality and inherent ability to transcend the world of the already known, while speculating upon its role in the territories of our shared futures. Hence this year’s selected title: Lights on - Projecting our Contemporary Future.
A constellation of films, talks, and workshops wishes to refract design thinking into its different manifestations through theory and practice. The Event approaches design as a way of life, and not merely as a profession, exploring how design is an agent of change that can help us make sense of what is happening around us and how we can turn it to our advantage. The Milano Design Film Festival Greece-Athens invites us to re-imagine and re-design our future, not only by shedding light on the unexplored potentials of the moving image but primarily by reflecting this light back to the social space.
