The U.S. State Department is currently accepting applications to help fund innovative travel around the world by young people who use education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, and/or communication and information to build strong ties among nations.
The fellowship is intended for American college students who have not been afforded many opportunities to travel abroad. Through 4 to 6 weeks of travel anywhere in the world, you can have the opportunity to interact with individuals from other nations while promoting the goals of UNESCO!

U.S. Ambassador to UNESCO Crystal Nix-Hines in Paris |
Ambassador Nix-Hines has arrived at the UNESCO Headquarters
in Paris, France to serve in her new position leading the U.S. Mission to UNESCO.
The UNESCO Center for Peace welcomed 140 delegates from over 35 countries for the
7th annual Summer Camp Program. The camp was located at Hood College, Frederick
Maryland. IMUN Committees: The IMUN Program was run by Secretary General Frank
Vasconcelos, and the Tallahassee State Model UN (TSMUN) Organization. There were
four committees: UN General Assembly (UNGA): UN Security Council (UNSC): UNESCO:
UN Committee on Sustainable Development (UNCSD) STEM: The UNESCO Center for
Peace launched its inaugural Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)
program, run by Jason Johnson and his associates from the Maryland Science Olympiad
(MSO). Their technical projects included Sustainable bridges; solar powered vehicles and
Mag-lev (Magnetic Levitation) Trains.Distinguished speakers and guests: The UNESCO
Center for Peace hosted distinguished speakers who gave lectures to the students during
the program. We were honored to welcome His Excellency, Petr Gandalovic, Ambassador
of Czech Republic to the United States and His Excellency, Professor Adefuye, Ambassador
of Nigeria to the United States.Field trips: The Student Delegates participated in many exciting
fieldtrips, such as the U.S. State Department, where they interacted with Ms. Allison Wright,
Executive Director at the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO; the U.S. Institute for Peace;
and the Pan American Health Organization building. They also visited the Capitol Hill, the
White House and many museums in the nation's capital.
Honors and Awards: Chen Yiming, from China, was given the top honor of IMUN-STEM 2014
Outstanding Delegate. This prize includes a full scholarship to the 2015 Summer Camp program.
Other award honorees during the program were: Uma Ilangovan & Hugo
Strynhanyn (Student Pick: Best Campers) Lucas Costas (Best Facilitator) Alexander
Gunn & Hugo Strynhanyn (STEM program outstanding delegates)Awards Show:
UNESCO Center for Peace honored deserving individuals in our Frederick
Community whose volunteerism has made our society a better place.
These included Ron Volpe (President, Hood College) Olivia White
(Dean of Student Affairs, Hood College) Multicultural Night Our campers
capped off the evening with music and dances from their different cultural
backgrounds, showcasing the rich diversity that the UNESCO Center for

and Equal Opportunities: The Women Rate to

The European Federation of UNESCO Clubs, in collaboration with the UNESCO
Center of Turin, will be hosting an International Meeting of Education, "Global Ethics
and Equal Opportunities:The Women Rate to Development of Europe and
Mediterranean", to be held in Turin, Italy on September 11-14, 2014.
