19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition
19 OCTOBER | Final round, day II
Miyu Shindo (Japan) underlined the drama and passion of the scores. She opted for very broad tempi in the cantabile sections, especially during the slow movement of the Concerto Op. 11.
William Yang‘s (USA) playing was effortless, but I found that his readings, especially that of the Polonaise-Fantaisie, lacked somewhat in character and poetry.
Piotr Alexewicz’s (Poland) interpretations were idiomatic, thoughtfully controlled and well structured.
