2019 is the third year of the Aegean Cargo Sailing Summer voyage to 18 Aegean islands. Our sailboat welcomes eco-travelers to participate in our summer sailing voyage and be part of our mission.
Our aim is to revive the traditional network of commercial sea-routes in order to re-establish a sustainable Blue Economy by transporting local products between the Aegean islands almost exclusively under sail and wind power, following the old tradition of "postalia" , commercial vessels that for centuries connected the islands with each other and with overseas markets.This year we are adding the extra feature of making this accessible to the public. So, we invite you to join our crew this summer, sail with us in the blue crystal waters of the magnificent Aegean Sea and participate in the transportation of unique local products by wind and sail.
Why to Sail with us:
During the voyage you will have the opportunity apart from sailing to unique places, to get in touch with the native producers, taste their products, learn how they are produced and generally help sustain the local market and environment. You will also have the chance to explore the fantastic Aegean biodiversity, visit archaeological sites, walk on ancient paths and experience unique authentic Greek hospitality, away from commercial massive tourism. All tours will be guided and all the meals are locally produced and cooked and mostly organic. Supplies on board will also be from local markets.
Sailing with us you will help revive the battered Greek economy in a sustainable way. Our vessels rely only on wind propulsion. No fuel will be used other than for the port approaches as imposed by the law.
Sailing experience is not required for joining our tours, but you are very welcome to help with the manoeuvres under the guidance of our captain plus the loading and unloading of the products at the island ports. The sailboat type is....... and is designed for 8-10 passengers or more, but we will offer 4 places in each tour, so that comfort is guaranteed, although you can not expect luxury.
The products that we will transport are honey, wine, olive oil, soap, dry fruits, aromatic plants, cheese, mastiha, fish in various long shelf life forms, dried fruit, fruit jams and others.
The sailing route includes 18 islands . You may follow the whole round, or you can choose one of the suggested segments.
